My name is Kristen, and I am the heart behind Bluegrass Sport Dogs. My journey with Labradors began in childhood, fueled by a lifelong admiration for their happy, friendly, and versatile nature. Since 2013, I have turned that passion into a dedicated in-home breeding program focused on sharing the "Love of the Labrador" with the world.
Bluegrass Sport Dogs is a "hobby" breeder dedicated to the thoughtful raising of exceptional Labrador Retrievers. I believe in quality over quantity, producing only one to three litters per year. My program is built exclusively upon dilute-free, health-tested ladies who embody the temperament, versatility, and soundness expected of the breed. I take pride in producing Labradors in the three standard AKC colors—Black, Chocolate, and Yellow—without ever compromising on health or stability.
All puppies are whelped and raised inside our home, underfoot. I am very hands-on from day 1, with daily structure, enrichment, and socializing. We place a high priority on intentional development from day one, incorporating:
Early Neurological Stimulation: To support long-term health and stress resilience.
Socialization: Puppies are raised with dogs of various sizes, cats, and even farm life including chickens, goats, and horses. Puppies are exposed to a children and a variety of people, new environments, car travel, crates, and various sounds!
We provide early experiences that make confident, well-adjusted new family members.
Our girls are family first and foremost. When they aren't competing in Hunt Tests, Dock Diving, Rally, or FastCAT, they are spoiled house dogs who love lounging on the couch, hiking, and traveling with us.
This deep bond with our dogs is what drives me to help families find their perfect new best friend. I truly enjoy guiding our owners through the selection process and remaining a supportive friend to them throughout their companion's entire life. Each puppy leaves Bluegrass Sport Dogs with a strong foundation, ready to transition effortlessly into a life of an active companion or hunting partner 🐾

I showed an interest in taining as a young girl, teaching our family Lab how to sit, lie down, and do tricks. In 2010, I bought my first Lab as an adult. That's when the love really began. We competed in AKC obedience, rally, dock diving, and I taught her a book of tricks. Later, I owned a Shepherd and Malinois and dabbled in bitesports, again continuing competitive and flashy obedience. I've received guidance and mentorship from several handlers, trainers, and behavioralists in this time, until I became confident to start my own business. I've been training pet dogs for families since 2020, and I find joy in transforming an unruly and unbalanced dog into a civilized companion someone is proud to show off! Not to mention, the bonds I help build between canine and human by teaching owners how to adjust their lifestyle a bit and engage with their family pet! We offer 3 Board and Train packages to fit your needs, within our home! Let's get started!
